Kickstarter & Indiegogo UPDATE 005 // Momentum!

Hello Backer!

Thank you so much for your patience and kind words of encouragement from the last update. It really helps to be reminded, when I’m living this day in and day out, how exciting this all is and more importantly, how the ONE BRUSH will be so beneficial to everyone’s daily lives.

So let’s get into it. I received the initial mould samples/tests mid June and overall the results were extremely positive. I’ve spoken to numerous mould experts in the last couple of months and they were all pleased with how things are tracking. I won’t go into all the technical details but by their accounts our ‘first shots of a mould’ are ticking boxes and we’re off to a good start.  As someone completely new to mould making, I can’t tell you how chuffed I was to hear those words!!

That being said, there will always be teething problems and given the injection moulds can make up to 500,000 units before needing any repairs or maintenance, now is the time to be fussy!
We/ have implemented a round of changes/amends and these are due to be tested again next Friday.

Ohhh that’s awesome, just a few small changes and then good to go?
Yes indeed, but also not quite that easy. A few amends here and there sounds simple but let me tell you, it’s a very LONG process, around a month to be exact.
Here’s what that process looks like:
   •  Diagnose problem and discuss in depth with manufacturer
   •  Problem solving and endless troubleshooting. For this I have enlisted the help of product design specialists People & Things based in Sydney
   •  3D files adjusted and computer simulations run to check updates
   •  3D prints/mockups created to test the updates
   •  Steel moulds re machined and adjusted
   •  Moulds re textured
   •  Mould test shots

Sooooo… what does that mean?
If all goes to plan, new test shots will be ready in the next week and arrive with me by Friday 22nd July. From there, fingers crossed, I can approve the samples and start to move into mass manufacturing :)

The big learning curve this month.
The main obstacle was that the thread shadow was appearing on the outside of the brush. See image below where you can see those pesky lines appearing in an area that should look silky smooth. Based on where the threads are located, there is a lot more volume and therefore heat. Due to the different cooling speeds of the brush versus actual thread, the pressure can cause the wall to ripple ever so slightly and the result, pesky lines/shadows showing up where they shouldn’t… frustrating indeed!
Anyway, I’m pleased to report that the problem is now resolved. We’ve addressed this by changing the thread depth and widths along with adding a slightly heavier texture to the brush. You can see the pesky ripples below:

Many thanks for your continued support. The ONE BRUSH and I look forward to updating you all at the end of the month.

Updating your details and Surveys.
Several people have asked if it’s still possible to update delivery details. The answer is YES!
You’ll have the opportunity to update all this information when the final survey is sent out. The survey can only be sent out once (Kickstarter requirements) hence why I’m holding off until mass production is underway and I can have accurate shipping rates and timeframes in place.
